Biography
Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov Lenin, born in 1870 in Russia, was a pivotal figure in the development of revolutionary theory and the leader of the Bolshevik Party. He played a central role in the 1917 October Revolution, which led to the establishment of the Soviet Union. Lenin's contributions to political thought include adapting Marxist theory to the Russian context through concepts such as the vanguard party and his analysis of Imperialism. He emphasized the importance of the working class seizing state power to enact socialist change, known as the Dictatorship of the Proletariat. Lenin's leadership shaped the early Soviet state, as he implemented policies like land redistribution and withdrawal from World War I. Despite his death in 1924, his ideas and legacy continued to influence communist movements worldwide. So vital were his contributions to the working class movement that later Joseph Stalin would formalize them as Marxism-Leninism.
